Here are some things that I find to be cool. I think it is cool when we are able to extract public information and make something useful out of it. My definition of cool is an intersection between law, technology and governance.
1. CBFC Watch#
Over the years, the Central Board for Film Certification has gotten another name ‘Censor Board’. What started out as an organisation to merely certify movies has become a mechanism to cut scenes or mute dialogues. This fascinating database tracks cuts and modifications made by the Central Board of Film Certification in India. It is a beautiful use of public data, applied properly. Check it out.
2. Namma Metro Data#
A beautiful example of what can happen if the data given through RTIs is digitally provided. Two determined engineers decided put together this website/tool to show how Metro is being used by the people of Bengaluru. I wish something like this was available for Hyderabad as well.
