Overview#
The LLB (3-Year Degree Course) includes two mandatory internship periods designed to provide practical exposure to students. These internships are monitored through a structured mentoring system, evaluated via viva-voce, and graded on a five-point scale.
Internship I — After Semester II#
Applicable to: LLB 3YDC (General) students after completion of Semester II.
Grades reflected in: Semester III marks memo.
Requirements#
- Introduction of viva-voce examination for internship record
- Mandatory internship to be undergone after Semester II
- Handwritten Record: Student must maintain a handwritten daily diary of work done.
- Certificate: Must be obtained from an Advocate with at least 10 years standing.
Internship II — After Semester IV#
Applicable to: LLB 3YDC (General and Honours) students after completion of Semester IV.
Grades reflected in: Semester V marks memo.
Requirements#
- Introduction of viva-voce examination for internship record
- Mandatory internship to be undergone after Semester IV
- Handwritten Record: Student must maintain a handwritten daily diary of work done.
- Certificate: Must be obtained from an Advocate with at least 10 years standing.
Mentoring System#
A mentoring system for internship of students shall be introduced:
- Ratio: 1 mentor for every 10 intern students
- The mentor shall monitor:
- Allotment of internship provider
- Progress of internship
- Certification by internship provider
- Submission of internship reports
Identification of Internship Providers#
Internship Providers can be:

| Statutory Bodies | Bar Councils, Legal Services Authorities, etc. |
| Courts | District Courts, High Court, Supreme Court |
| Judges | Under the guidance of sitting/retired judges |
| Advocates (10y+ standing) | Any advocate with at least 10 years standing at the Bar |
| Commissions | Human Rights Commissions, Women’s Commission, etc. |
| Tribunals | Various tribunals (NCLT, DRAT, Labour Courts, etc.) |
| Industries | Corporate legal departments |
| NGOs | Legal aid organizations, human rights NGOs, etc. |
These providers must be able to impart practical knowledge and training to the students.
Procedure#
- An Official Letter shall be addressed to the Internship Providers by the Principal of the respective college.
- A University-appointed examiner shall conduct Viva-Voce Examination for all students immediately after completion of internship.
Grading System#

| D | 50% – 59% | Satisfactory |
| E | Below 50% | Not Satisfactory |
⚠️ Note: No impact on results. The grades are reflected in the marks memos but do not affect pass/fail status.
Evaluation#
- Grades are awarded by examiners appointed by the Examination Branch on the recommendation of the Chairman, Board of Studies in Law, Osmania University
- Grades are submitted to the Examination Branch and reflected in:
- Semester III marks memo (for Internship I — after Sem II)
- Semester V marks memo (for Internship II — after Sem IV)
- Concerned colleges should pay suitable honorarium to the Examiners by way of sitting fee
- The internship Viva-Voce Examination should be conducted for the concerned semester students from the Academic Year 2024–25
